The company was founded in 1994 and was the vision of its director, Bill Renzow, who commenced his career as a fitter and turner/fabricator welder.

In 1975 Bill started his own business, WFR Earthmoving (WFR) where WFR secured plant hire contracts with Waverly City Council and the Metropolitan Board of Works.

Later on, WFR worked in association with the Environmental Protection Authority (VIC EPA) on a ground contamination project, this avenue then led to waste industry connections followed by a successful bid by tender to operate the City of Knox Landfill. Arising from this Garden State Mulching Services was created as a company to provide landfill, transfer station and contract mulching services.

In 2006 the business was able to procure the adjacent land immediately to the North of the Knox Transfer Station at 257 George Street Wantirna south. This site has been the base for the company’s latest recycling operations where the main focus has been the receipt, processing and recycling of council collected green waste. GSMS also accept public green waste and timber, soils, street sweepings, landscape and other demolition materials. Other Off-site activities include large-scale contract shredding, bulk transport, bushfire clean up, wet plant hire, screening and more.

Looking into the future, Garden State plans to continue to work closely with with local Governments and Waste Authorities with the primary focus recycling Green Waste Organics for a cleaner and more sustainable tomorrow.

A report by the Australian Organics Recycling Industry shows that under an Organics Recycling rate of 80% an extra 2,102,377 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions would be saved ... which is equivalent to planting 3,144,066 trees or taking 486,021 cars off the road each year.
