Waste Recovery

We ensure environmental waste is managed cleanly and sustainably.

Our green waste disposal facility focuses on recovering and recycling resources.

Our green waste disposal facility focuses on recovering resources from your garden waste and other forms of organic waste and diverting them from landfill. When organic waste is sent to landfill rather than recycled, it creates greenhouse emissions.

According to the National Waste Report 2020, around 13 million tonnes of CO2-e (carbon dioxide equivalent) is created as a result of organic waste going to landfill, which contributes to climate change. When you use our services and recycle your organic waste you are helping with the fight against climate change and helping work towards a sustainable future.

When we recycle organic waste, not only are we saving valuable products from landfill and saving on greenhouse emissions, we are creating nutrient rich composts and mulch that are then conveyed back into the agriculture, gardening and landscaping industries creating a closed loop economy.

At Garden State Mulching Services we take our responsibility to the environment very seriously and work with EPA to ensure our implementation of environmental practices are compliant with current EPA legislation.

Our Waste Recovery Facility located in Wantirna South is the base for our Recycling operations where our main focus has been the receipt, processing and recycling of council collected Green Organic and FOGO Waste. We also accept and recycle the following:

  • Public Green Waste and Timber (no treated material)
  • Logs and Stumps
  • Soil and clean fill
  • Street sweepings
  • Concrete and Bricks
  • Metal

Working together with CORE

Between 2015-2021, we have worked together with CORE on a network of over twenty large farms in rural Victoria where the holdings are involved in pastoral and horticultural crop production situated in the South East Melbourne and East Gippsland Regions. Farmers in the program have observed significant agronomic and environmental benefits such as:

  • Reduced chemical fertiliser usage
  • Reduced water usage
  • Improved yields
  • Better soil structure
  • Improved pasture
  • Sequestering carbon in the soil

What happens to your organic waste at our site?

Once your Garden and Organic Waste has been put in your bin and set out the front for collection, side loader waste trucks collect them and deliver the Waste to our Resource Recovery Facility for processing.

After they have unloaded, our team begins the decontamination process to remove all materials that do not belong in the Green Waste; these commonly include plastics, glass and plastic bottles, general waste rubbish and metal just to name a few.

With decontamination completed, the green waste now gets shredded into Mulch through our High-Speed Mulching Machines. From here the mulch is either carted to Registered farms for open windrow composting or is sent to Licenced compost facilities where they are composted and screened to create quality soils.
