Centre for Organic Research and Education

Garden State Mulching Services Pty Ltd is a member of the Centre for Organic Research and Education (CORE). CORE has been assisting the public and private sectors throughout Victoria since 2004, which includes a five-year relationship with Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Group (MWRRG) and its ‘Overflow’ program. CORE develops and implements programs in the agriculture and rehabilitation sectors to encourage the greater uptake of recycled organics. The company has also used material from Casey Council in the Sustainable Amendments for Agriculture (SAFA) program through a previous contractor.

Between 2015 - 2021, We have worked together with CORE on a network of over twenty large farms in rural Victoria where the holdings are involved in pastoral and horticultural crop production situated in the South East Melbourne and East Gippsland Regions. Farmers formally sign onto the SAFA program and are provided with management guidelines so that the material is appropriately managed.

Farmers in the program have observed significant agronomic and environmental benefits such as:

  • Reduced chemical fertiliser usage
  • Reduced water usage
  • Improved yields
  • Better soil structure
  • Improved pasture
  • Sequestering carbon in the soil

During the past 5 years, our company has been working with Bill Renzow and his staff at Garden State Mulching Services, to place in employment local residents with a disability, either learning, mental health or physical to regain their self-esteem and sense of pride and fulfilment knowing that they are contributing to the local community.

The team at Garden State have shown their commitment to the disadvantaged in our community in giving opportunities of employment to those who have previously struggled with judgement and discrimination in trying to obtain a paid position.

The experience of our job seekers in meeting with Bill and his team has been overwhelmingly positive and many have secured ongoing, long-term employment. They have reported that they feel very supported, encouraged and skills have been developed and cultivated.

Garden State Mulching has been a vital part of growth and development for our clients and the future expansion of this company would be an integral factor for increasing the assistance we can provide to Disability Employment Services.
